How to Have an Awful Marriage

Thursday, November 14, 2019 7:00 - 8:30 PM

Details

We have come far since Jay Haley, founder of Strategic Family Therapy, wrote a useful, “unself-help” article on this topic decades ago. Building on his paper, tonight’s talk adds current research about the science of marriage and love. The presenter will further highlight psychoanalytic and cultural perspectives. With a 53% divorce rate in the U.S., increasing our understanding of this issue and, by contrast, its solutions, is work for us all.

Presenter:

Frances Bigda-Peyton, Ed.D.,Cert.Psya. is on the teaching and research faculty of the Boston Graduate School of Psychoanalysis. She has over 35 years of clinical experience, has advance couples training at the Gottman Institute, the Cambridge Family Institute and the International Centre for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy.

Continuing Education Objectives:

Participants will be able to:

  1. Discuss the most recent research related to divorce prediction
  2. To review the role that projection, repetition compulsion, and narcissism play in marital disharmony
  3. Describe the concept of disengaged marriages
